My name is Simone Greene, and i am a current 9th grader and attend Science Leadership Academy High School. In History class, we are creating informal pages about what we are now learning , which is African history. Our pages will be based on ethnomusicology ,the African music and the revolt of how this kind of music relates to African American music. We had to contribute three songs but out of the three songs, one song had to be from "anytime anywhere", and the second song had to be from "1973 or earlier", and the third song had to be from a "non speaking English Country". The three songs that i choose for the ethnomusicology project were "Kiss me thru the phone"is by Soulja Boy" which is for the "anytime anywhere"song."Cant Satisfy Her" was by I- Wayne, and this song is for the "Non speaking English country". The last song that i picked for the "Any song from 1973 or earlier" is "My Girl"sung by The Temptations. Enjoy!

Soulja Boy
Song:Kiss Me Thru The phone Year:2008Musicians: Soulja Boy Genre:Hip hop/R&B Synopisis:This song talks about a boy who has this girlfriend and he is in a different location then her. Everything in there relationship is okay but....the thing is that, they are talking over the phone and he wants to kiss her, but he cant.So he is telling her how he realized how much he cares for her, even though he is not able to kiss her because they are not near each other, unfortunately. This song is related to African music mostly because of its rhythm, repetition and the beat, which reflects back on certain kinds of instruments such as bass which comes from drums. The drums were a instrument that was one of the most common instruments that were used by the Africans to make they're kind of music. I Wayne "CantSatisfy Her"
I Wayne
Song: Cant Satisfy Her Year: 2006 Musicians:I Wayne Genre:Dancehall/Reggae Synopisis:This Song is about a girl who was a prostitute since she was a small girl, and the way that she survives through the hard times, is to sell her body and be a gold-digger. Unfortunately, she catches a disease and is now in suffering. This song ties in with African music because this song has the same "unusual" beat rhythm and sound. Just by hearing this song, you can probably tell the resemblance between it, and African music. They also both have that foreign country vibe to it when you listen to them that actually persuades you to think that they are both relative in some way. Song: My GirlDate: 1964 Musicians: The Temptations Genre: Pop,Soul Synopisis: The song "My Girl" was a very popular song back in 1965-when it first came out. The meaning of the song is basically about a man talking about how his girlfriend makes him feel good in different ways. When hearing this song,I can also relate it back to African music in various ways. For instance, it has a beat, and people actually talk within the beat, which is how some African music sounds like.Another thing is that the certain movements from way back in Africa, can relate to the movements that the Temptations made to gt with this song. For instance, in both "My Girl" and "African Music" , they both have dances that go with they're songs.African music have dances relative to leaning back and forth-which is also an example of a movement that would be done to the song "My Girl".
"My Girl" lyrics
I've got sunshine
On a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside,
I've got the month of May.
Well, I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl. (My girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl. (My girl)
I've got so much honey
The bees envy me.
I've got a sweeter songThan the birds in the trees.
Well, I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl. (My girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl. (My girl)
Ooooh, Hoooo.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
I don't need no money,
Fortune or fame.
I've got all the riches, baby,
One man can claim.
Well, I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl. (My girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl. (My girl)
Talkin' bout my girl.
I've got sushine on cloudy day
With my girl.
I've even got the month of MayWith my girl.
